Job Summary:
The Director of Membership plays a important role in driving the growth and success of the St. Cloud Area Chamber of Commerce by acquiring new members and strengthening relationships with existing members. This position showcases the Chamber’s value proposition to local businesses, including networking opportunities, advocacy, education, and business resources. The ideal candidate is a motivated, goal-driven professional with a passion for community development and the ability to build strong business connections. Maintaining a high level of professionalism and responsiveness in all interactions with members, ensuring a positive image of the Chamber is imperative.

Essential Area of Responsibility
New Member Acquisition:

  • Prospect and identify potential members through a variety of channels, including direct outreach, referrals, networking events, and market research.
  • Conduct cold calls, schedule face-to-face appointments, and deliver presentations to business owners and decision-makers, clearly articulating the benefits of Chamber membership.
  • Develop a strategic sales plan to consistently meet or exceed a monthly target of 10 new memberships.
  • Utilize CRM software to track and manage sales activities, including leads, follow-ups, and membership conversions.
Membership Prospecting & Development:
  • Continuously expand the Chamber’s membership base by building a robust pipeline of prospective members, engaging with businesses of all sizes, industries, and locations.
  • Leverage a variety of platforms, including networking events and community engagement to increase the Chamber’s visibility and promote membership.
  • Collaborate with other Chamber staff to identify opportunities for cross-promotion of events, programs, and member benefits.
Member Retention & Engagement:
  • Maintain contact with members to ensure they are maximizing the value of their membership and utilizing available resources. Offering guidance on how to leverage Chamber programs, committees, and services to grow their business.
  • Address questions or concerns regarding dues, member benefits, or Chamber services, ensuring prompt resolution and positive member experiences.
  • Proactively follow up on delinquent dues payments to retain members.
Event Planning & Participation:
  • Organize, plan, and attend New Member Mixers and New Chamber Member 101 sessions designed to welcome new members and help them engage.
  • Creation and execution of membership drives.
  • Act as a Chamber representative at community functions, committee meetings, and Chamber-sponsored events to foster relationships with stakeholders and prospective members.
Reinstatement & Reactivation of Lapsed Members:
  • Develop and implement strategies to re-engage lapsed or former members, highlighting the benefits of rejoining the Chamber.
  • Use data-driven insights to identify trends or patterns in member attrition and recommend strategies to increase retention and reinstatement.
Non-Essential Job Duties
  • Performs related work as required.
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of sales experience, preferably in membership, service, or nonprofit environments.
  • Proven track record in sales, with experience in meeting or exceeding monthly targets.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and present to diverse audiences.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of the St. Cloud business community and regional economic landscape.
  • A demonstrated self-starter who is committed to the Chamber’s goals and objectives.
Work Environment & Expectations:
  • This is a full-time position that requires a mix of in-office work, virtual communication, and in-person visits.
  • Flexible hours may be needed to accommodate meetings, events, and community engagements outside of regular business hours.
Base salary plus commission, with opportunities for performance-based bonuses.
