The Maintenance & Facilities Technician is responsible for overseeing the overall maintenance, repair, and upkeep of the facility, ensuring a safe, clean, and functional environment for all members, staff, and visitors. This role involves coordinating facility repairs and implementing preventative maintenance programs to extend the life of the building and equipment. The Maintenance & Facilities Technician will also collaborate with other departments to ensure the facility meets safety standards and operational needs, while fostering a positive, well-maintained experience for the YMCA community.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Completes preventative maintenance and general repairs of HVAC boilers, pumps, motors, small engines, vehicles, pools, roofs, concrete, asphalt, and fitness equipment as relevant.
  • Performs specific tasks as needed inside and outside of the facility including painting, construction, landscaping, sweeping, washing, digging, and shoveling.
  • Develop, implement and maintain the Preventative Maintenance Program. 
  • Maintains third-party contracts in accordance with association standards.
  • Performs quality work within given deadlines and expectations with or without direct supervision. Works independently while understanding the necessity for communicating and coordinating work efforts with other appropriate individuals.
  • Develops and manages a departmental budget within established guidelines.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required. 
  • Associate’s or bachelor's degree in facilities management, engineering, construction management or related field is preferred. 
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in facilities maintenance or building management, with a minimum of 2 years in a leadership role. 
  • Current CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications required, or ability to obtain within the first 60 days of employment.
  • CPO and boiler certifications required within 120 days of employment.
  • Ability and current license to drive with record that meets YMCA standards.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems, carpentry, and other maintenance-related areas.
  • Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment. 
  • Dependable, punctual and flexible with the willingness to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays. 
  • Skill in estimating the cost and amount of materials needed for repair and maintenance of building structures and mechanical equipment.
  • Thorough knowledge of the proper handling of hazardous materials.
  • Thorough knowledge of acceptable maintenance and repair in all phases of building.
  • Considerable knowledge of environmental regulations.
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively. 
  • Ability to follow instructions and safety protocol and to respond to safety and emergency situations. 
  • Friendly and professional demeanor when interacting with others, promoting a positive and safe environment. 
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with staff, vendors, members and guests. 
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. regularly, including lifting tools, equipment and supplies. Ability to lift up to 100 lbs. as needed. 
  • Ability to stand or walk for extended periods of time while moving throughout the facility to complete maintenance tasks. 
  • Must be able to bend, kneel, crouch, squat, or reach in various positions to inspect equipment and perform repairs and maintenance.
  • Ability to climb ladders, steps, scaffolding as needed. Ability to use scissors lift and adhere to safety standards. 
  • Ability to operate scissors lift and other equipment. 
  • Ability to work in variety of conditions, including areas with high humidity (such as pools), as well as climate controlled spaces and outdoors.
