"Has college become too expensive for most students?
Most Americans believe college is too expensive. In a Gallup poll released this summer, only 12 percent of U.S. adults say four-year colleges and universities provide an affordable education. But at the same time, a majority of parents surveyed say they would like their children to get some post-secondary education.
What’s a student to do?
Here in Minnesota, relatively new programs like the North Star Promise Scholarship and the Fostering Independence Grant aim to close the gap for low-income students. Is that enough to tip the scales? This fall, MPR News host Angela Davis will moderate a discussion in St. Cloud with college affordability experts and students paying for their education right now. Is college getting more affordable? And if not, what else can be done?
