Software Test Engineer

GeoComm is a nation-wide leader in providing public safety GIS solutions that help route emergency calls, map emergency caller and incident locations and provide GIS data quality control, transformation and aggregation of 9-1-1 data.
The Software Test Engineer will work with agile teams testing software applications for the public safety industry.Successful candidates will execute manual and exploratory tests and will create test scripts that will be used within test automation frameworks to test GeoComm software products. The Software Test Engineer will also reproduce and resolve issues found during testing and from the support of production customers.

  1. Review features, user stories, acceptance criteria, design documents and bug descriptions and create test plans to ensure quality applications meet requirements of scalability, stress, negativity, usability, performance and GeoComm Development Standards.
  2. Design, develop, and execute manual and exploratory tests. Lead the test execution for new feature development by participating in requirements and design reviews, business needs and acceptance criteria, and incorporating business logic into test strategies and scenarios.
  3. Create, document, maintain, extend and execute automated tests. The suite of tests will be developed within a framework that will allow for repeatability.
  4. Work with developers to isolate, reproduce, troubleshoot and resolve issues that surface during testing.  Log and escalate bugs and issues as necessary.
  5. Actively participate in daily stand-up meetings, demos, retrospectives, grooming, sprint planning, release planning and other Scrum-related/Agile meetings.
  6. Work with the Support Organization as the second level support for GeoComm applications in isolating, reproducing, troubleshooting, and resolving customer issues.
  7. Write system, installation, configuration and support documentation for tested applications.
  8. Participate in the continuous improvement of GeoComm’s testing practice with a focus on speed, quality and innovation.
  9. Design, develop and maintain automated test scripts.
  10. Use and assist in the improvement of the automation solutions across our technology stacks and lines of business.
  11. Maintain, setup, design, and configure software test environments and labs. Make recommendations to improve lab.
  12. Ensure that internal quality processes are followed.
  13. Report key metrics to support and improve the quality standards of our software.

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent practical experience
  • 4 years of experience performing software usability testing
  • 3 years of experience with release automation testing
  • 3 years of experience with UI test automation tools like Selenium
  • 3 years of experience writing clear and well documented test cases
  • Experience coding and scripting with Python, C#, and TypeScript
  • Strong understanding of test plans, test procedures, and test cases
  • Ability to establish priorities and work independently on multiple tasks
  • Willingness to diligently pursue issues until they are successfully resolved
  • Experience with agile software development methodologies.
 Preferred Experience:
  • Experience with GIS and Esri’s ArcGIS products including ArcGIS Server
  • Experience with Postman and API testing
  • Public Safety knowledge
