Security Engineer

The Security Engineer safeguards GeoComm’s systems and solution infrastructure. This role plans and carries out security measures to monitor and protect sensitive data and systems from cyber-attacks. The Security Engineer is responsible for working with cross-functional teams to ensure that information security controls are properly implemented.  The Security Engineer is passionate about Cybersecurity.
Essential Job Duties:

  1. Responsible for the daily system administration of supported corporate systems including security administration, log monitoring, and other standard operations required for optimal performance, availability and general health of these systems.
  2. Understands the needs of the organization and plans for current and future security administration tools with adequate notice to plan into budgeting process and to address existing and emerging security threats.
  3. Manage, monitor, and correlate reports from Security Information and Event Management reports and alert Technology Director of any anomalies, incidents.
  4. Provides technical support and manage training for other departments as needed to meet corporate system security objectives.
  5. Implement, configure, test and maintain security controls and security technology.
  6. Provide recommendations on security and respond to security requirements for proposals.  Monitor to ensure that customer and/or solution specific requirements comply.
  1. Maintains related security support documentation, including industry best practice standards, configuration documentation, diagrams, implementation plans and instructional material.
  2. Works with departments throughout the company to equip them with security support tools. This includes monitoring and troubleshooting alerts from reports and other security monitoring tools.
  3. Perform routine vulnerability scans/risk assessments and investigate potential security incidents, breaches or threats to eliminate and/or reduce risks.
  4. Collaborate with product management and engineering to mitigate security vulnerabilities within solutions.
  5. Conduct security briefings and advise management of critical security issues.
  6. Consistently delivers on individual and team commitments.

Minimum Job Requirements:
Education:           Bachelor’s Degree in IT, Computer Science or a related field
Experience:         At Least 5 years’ experience in Information Security
Required Training and Experience:
  1. Two years’ experience with security engineering, network security, authentication, security protocols and cryptography
Desirable Training and Experience:
  1. Superior communications skills, (verbal and written) and a positive can-do attitude.
  2. Ability to react quickly and decisively with strong problem-solving skills.
  1. Willingness to diligently pursue issues until they are successfully resolved.
  2. Experience configuring and supporting firewalls and intrusion prevention systems.
  3. Experience securing Windows and Linux operating systems.
  4. Experience with vulnerability management platforms and penetration testing frameworks.
  5. Experience with AWS security tools and processes.
  6. Proficient in creating technical documentation & diagrams.
  7. Certifications: CompTIA Security+, CISSP or similar.
