Cloud Engineer

The Cloud Engineer is accountable for maintaining cloud infrastructure for GeoComm’s cloud hosted software solutions.  This is a hands-on role which involves working with engineering, IT and client services to build and maintain testing and production environments in AWS. 
Essential Job Duties:

  1. Design, build, and maintain testing and production environments on AWS.
  2. Plan and implement solutions for backup and recovery, high availability, key management, and other strategic initiatives.
  3. Write scripts to automate operations and server management.
  4. Build and maintain operations tools for monitoring, notifications, trending, and analysis.
  5. Troubleshoot production issues.
  6. Monitor and optimize cloud infrastructure health and performance.
  7. Install operating system updates, hotfixes, patches, and service packs.
  8. Work with software engineers to automate builds and software deployments to testing & production environments.
  9. Ensure documentation of AWS and configuration processes and policies.
  10. Collaborate with development teams. Participates as needed in agile ceremonies including planning meetings and system demos.
  11. Provide input on technical requirements for proposals and then ensure compliancy.
  12. Works with other departments including technical support to ensure environments and monitoring tools work correctly.
  13. Consistently delivers on individual and team commitments.
  14. Regular, predictable attendance is an essential function of this position.

Minimum Job Requirements:
Education:         Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or other technical discipline
Experience:       6+ years building and maintaining large online production environments
4+ years of practical experience with most, if not all, of the following components of AWS: VPC, EC2, ELB, EBS, Route53, S3, CloudWatch, CloudTrail, IAM, RDS, SNS, SQS, Lambda
Desirable Training and Experience:
  1. Superior communications skills, (verbal and written) and a positive can-do attitude.
  2. Ability to react quickly and decisively with strong problem-solving skills.
  1. Willingness to diligently pursue issues until they are successfully resolved.
  2. Experience developing, configuring and supporting online software monitoring systems, alerting and analytics.
  3. Experience administering web services on Linux.
  4. Experience with high availability and scalability in AWS.
  5. Experience with GIT.
  6. Proficient in creating technical documentation & diagrams.
